Thomas Ecker is a recent college graduate who graduated Cum Laude at the University of South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Business Information Management. His passion for programming and creating solutions to problems allowed him to succeed in his studies, such as his classes in Software Engineering and Algorithmic Design. Over the course of his studies, Thomas learned about many important Computer Science topics, including algorithm design and efficiency, information security, cybersecurity principles, database manipulation and management, and the strategic management of information systems. Despite the setback of online learning for three semesters due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Thomas was able to make the Dean's List five times and the President's Honor List three times. Outside of academics, Thomas was also part of the university's marching band, The Mighty Sound of the Southeast, where he was a member of the clarinet section for all four years. Also, he was part of the Cybersecurity Club his freshman year and he attended a competition in Charleston, SC in which he worked with a group of 2 other students from the club to try to solve different tasks related to Cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is a discipline of Computer Science that is of special interest to Thomas because computer systems are constantly trying to be implemented and managed in ways that provide the most security. Additionally, Thomas strives to help others and it is his goal to use the knowledge gained from his undergraduate studies to make computer systems safer and more efficient. During Thomas' final year at the University of South Carolina, he worked in a team with three other students to create an iOS app that lets users store certain information, such as cards, IDs, bills, and contacts. The experience and knowledge he gained from this year-long project sparked his interest in going into mobile app development for a career. While Thomas does not know exactly where he will be or what he will be doing for his first job out of college, he hopes to use his passion for programming and learning to develop new technologies and solutions to problems, while also making the world a better place by helping people.
